Key Facts

  • Carl Cooper had a known history of domestic violence and had previously stood trial for attempted murder in 1999, but was acquitted due to lack of evidence.

  • Naomi Hunte reported Cooper to police four times in 2020–2021, describing stalking, harassment, and intimidation.

  • On 14 February 2022, Naomi was found stabbed in the chest in her Plumstead flat; a blood-covered steak knife was found nearby.

  • Cooper was arrested but released under investigation due to lack of immediate forensic evidence.

  • Fiona Holm, who had autism and a learning disability, began a relationship with Cooper in late 2022.

  • In April 2023, Fiona reported Cooper to police for attacking her with a crowbar and previously stabbing her with a screwdriver – but again, no charges were brought.

  • Cooper was given a 28-day Domestic Harm Prevention Order – it expired on the day Fiona was last seen, 20 June 2023.

  • Fiona was last seen on CCTV buying alcohol in Catford; she never returned home and her fridge was later found full of rotting food, laundry left in the machine – totally out of character.

  • Fiona’s daughter and sister led the search themselves, eventually spotting Cooper in his flat through a scraped-off windowpane.

  • Police only arrested Cooper after the family caught him selling Fiona’s coats in the street – one of which still smelled of her.

  • Forensic analysis of Cooper’s flat found Fiona’s blood on the walls, doors, and even the Wi-Fi router – despite his attempt to repaint and redecorate.

  • The police had not linked the two cases until both were presented together in court in 2024.

  • Cooper was found guilty of both murders in June 2024 and sentenced to life with a minimum term of 35 years.

  • Fiona’s body has never been found.

  • Four Met Police officers are under investigation for misconduct due to failures in safeguarding and response to both victims’ earlier reports.
